McAvoy and Cruise Desired for ‘At the Mountains of Madness’

We already know and are very excited that the next project from Guillermo del Toro is the long-gestating adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s novella At the Mountain of Madness which is being produced by James Cameron and shot in 3D. Though production isn’t expected to begin until May of 2011, apparently Universal and del Toro are already in the midst of searching for their cast. Collider reports that the studio would like James McAvoy to lead the film while del Toro is much more interested in bringing Tom Cruise on board. In addition, Chris Pine is also being considered as a potential candidate for del Toro’s new passion project.

While Chris Pine has quite a future slate already lined up like the forthcoming Star Trek sequel, the action comedy This Means War, the Jack Ryan franchise reboot Moscow and The Art of Making Money with D.J. Caruso, the other two aforementioned actors aren’t nearly as busy. McAvoy will soon be shooting X-Men: First Class with Matthew Vaughn and at some point after could then be shooting the adaptation of Cloud Atlas with director Tom Tykwer and other X-Men alums Ian McKellen and Halle Berry. Meanwhile, Cruise is prepping for the next installment in the Mission Impossible franchise and has a feature film surrounding his Tropic Thunder character Les Grossman in development as well. Both will likely have no problem opening their schedules for a May production start next year. So which actor is more likely to take on this big role?

While there were rumors that McAvoy would take on the role of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, which del Toro sadly had to leave, a more solid relationship most likely already exists between Tom Cruise and the Hellboy director. One of the projects del Toro left behind in order to finally adapt At the Mountains of Madness was a new take on Van Helsing with Cruise producing and maybe starring. So it stands to reason that del Toro still wants to work with Cruise and finds him the perfect man to to lead the project. Being unfamiliar with the H.P. Lovecraft story, I can’t speak as to whether Cruise’s potential casting is good or bad, but if del Toro has faith in him, that’s certainly good enough for me. Any Lovecraft fans have any other suggestions?

Liam Neeson Set to Re-Team with Joe Carnahan for ‘The Grey’

After leading the infamous A-Team in the big screen adaptation of the classic TV series, Heat Vision reports Liam Neeson will be leading a team of a different sort in director Joe Carnahan’s (also of Narc, Smokin’ Aces) next project The Grey. Described as “existentialist kind of drama” which Carnahan wrote himself, the story follows a group of pipeline workers in Alaska flying back into civilization after working for number of months. The 737 they’re on goes down, and they’re then hunted by a pack of rogue wolves. Neeson replaces another member of The A-Team, actor Bradley Cooper, who was previously slated to star in the same role.

Ridley and Tony Scott are producing via their Scott Free banner and writer Ian Jeffers also helped write the script with Carnahan. The project is yet another in the recent line of films to place the 58 year-old actor in intense, action-packed situations since his ass-kicking role in Taken. At least Carnahan is having an easier time getting this project together than his previously mentioned but never produced projects like White Jazz and Killing Pablo. Though Carnahan may not be the most talented filmmaker (in my humble opinion), I had a great time watching The A-Team, and The Grey sounds like it will be an intense story of man vs. nature.

Another Fantastic Poster for Gareth Edwards’ ‘Monsters’ Debuts

I know we’ve written about Gareth Edwards’ Monsters quite a bit over the last few months, but please bear with us as we continue to cover all the cool stuff that Magnolia is putting out, because it’s one of my favorite indie discoveries of this year and I’m all for covering everything. Although we’ve already seen that gorgeous official poster for the low budget sci-fi film, Vulture just debuted yet another “alternative” poster design that is just as unique, just as original, and just as awesome. We also already got a glimpse in the latest trailer, but those tentacles in the right eye are from the aliens in this. And here’s a new positive review. Check this out!

Monsters is written, produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, a big up-and-coming filmmaker who shot this on a shoestring budget in Mexico and did all of the visual effects on his own computer. The movie stars Scoot McNairy, who I’ve actually seen in commercials recently, and Whitney Able. Here’s the basic concept: “Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion, a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.” It’s a totally amazing film that I loved and will be pushing as much as I can through October. ‘They’re Here’ – Another Viral Site for an Alien Invasion Film?

If you’re an avid reader of FS, you’ll know we’re big fans of any and all viral marketing games and concepts, big or small. Last week I came across a viral site located at theyrehere.net that’s promoting a mysterious, upcoming sci-fi flick. The site only contains some very ominous text stating “Meet Them” and “Be The First To See Them” and that all will be revealed on 10-10-10, but other than that we have no clue what this is. However, we just got an email today from the site with a link to a YouTube video that shows some amateur nighttime UFO footage, but we’re still in the dark. Anyone want to help us figure out what this viral is for?

The weird thing is that the website is centered on a potentially fictitious character named Paul Geist, who has been communicating with people via twitter and the website. The site is also based out of the UK, which may not mean much, but I have a feeling this isn’t connect with any Hollywood feature film. Obviously there are a lot of alien invasion sci-fi projects currently in the works, but I can’t figure out what this is for. Maybe it’s something we’ve never heard of yet? And how much will they reveal on 10-10-10? Apparently a trailer will be arriving in September for the “feature film” so it looks like we will have a bit more to check out soon.

In the meantime, look around the site, check out the video and tell us what you think. If you find any leads or hints or have any idea what this is for, let us know, as it seems like it might be an interesting sci-fi flick.

Jon Hamm Cast in Jennifer Westfeldt’s New ‘Friends with Kids’

If you’re a follower/fan of “Mad Men’s” hunky Jon Hamm, you probably already know that his girlfriend is actress/filmmaker Jennifer Westfeldt (of Kissing Jessica Stein, Ira & Abby), who he took as his date to the Emmys last weekend (seen above). According to Showbiz411 (via Playlist), Hamm and Westfeldt are now teaming up for a feature. Westfeldt typically writes and stars in her own films, and she’ll be doing the same with this. The project is called Friends with Kids and we don’t have any plot details for it, but I imagine it’s about, well, friends with kids. It was previewed last month in a script reading at a small theater festival.

Hamm told Showbiz411 at an Emmy party (what a way to get a scoop) that they’re “ready to roll” and they’re “starting to pull together what’s necessary to make Friends before ‘Mad Men’ starts again.” Additionally, they’re trying to secure Anne Hathaway and Kristen Wiig as co-stars, but obviously they’re not officially involved yet, so we’ll keep you updated on them. This seems like an interesting little project and I’m a fan of Westfeldt’s work (loved Ira & Abby) and I’m looking forward to seeing these two collaborate beyond just in the bedroom (sorry, had to say it). Considering they’re hoping to shoot this before “Mad Men” starts again, it sounds like it’ll be coming up very soon, so stick around for more details as we hear them. Thoughts?

The Adventure Begins – I’m Off to Telluride, Toronto & Austin

For the third straight year in a row, I’m embarking upon a massive 30-day non-stop film festival tour. I’m catching a flight this morning to kick things off starting at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado (Sept. 3 – 6), then I’ll be heading up to the Toronto Film Festival (Sept. 9 to 19), and finally I’ll be heading back to Fantastic Fest in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse (Sept. 23 – 30). It’s a very long trip, but I love every second of it, I live for this stuff. My partner in crime is Peter Sciretta of SlashFilm, who will be joining me on this exciting, exhausting and entertaining adventure to some of the best fests the film world has to offer.

We’ll obviously continue to provide as much regular coverage as we can. Ethan Anderton has freed up his schedule to help balance out the regular stuff. As for me, I’ll be bringing you guys early reviews, video (and text) blogs, numerous interviews, and as much good coverage as I can from the three festivals. I’m excited to head out on this trip again, as I love all of those festivals and the mood this time of year, especially because there’s always a lot of Oscar buzz. Two years ago, Slumdog Millionaire’s first ever showing was at Telluride, and I was there. I really hope Danny Boyle is bringing 127 Hours to unveil this year up in the mountains!

Another Great International Trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ Buried!

Paul Conroy Isn’t Ready To Die. We’ve seen a few official trailers for Rodrigo Cortés’ Buried before today, but this new international trailer (via UK’s The Sun) actually has some good footage in it. I think Lionsgate’s trailers are very bold, but I liked that they didn’t show much footage because there’s only so much they can show without ruining it. As a quick recap, Buried is that one-man, buried alive, stuck in a coffin thriller that I raved about at Sundance. If you truly want to enjoy the experience, then don’t watch this trailer. But if you still need a bit more to convince you it’s worth seeing, there’s just enough in here to do that. Check this out!

A U.S. contractor working in Iraq awakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap. Buried is directed by Spanish filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés, of the films 15 Days, The Contestant, and Dirt Devil previously. The screenplay was written by first-time writer Chris Sparling. This was one of my favorite films from Sundance (read my review) and I can’t wait for everyone to be able to experience it! Buried hits ALL theaters on October 8th.

First Look: Thurman and Angarano in Max Winkler’s Ceremony

Another film I’m keeping a close eye on at the Toronto Film Festival is Ceremony. It’s the feature debut of Max Winkler, son of Henry Winkler, who wrote the script and directed a cast including Michael Angarano (Forbidden Kingdom), Reece Thompson (Assassination of a High School President), Lee Pace (The Fall) & Uma Thurman. It’s a comedy about two friends, one of whom falls for an older woman about to be married. Sam (Angarano) drags Marshall (Thompson) out to a beach town in hopes of breaking up the wedding, but they soon realize how out of place they are amongst the British groom and his guests. Three photos below.

Ceremony has a score from Fruitbats singer Eric D. Johnson as well as other great songs on the soundtrack.

In the lower two photos, you can see Max Winkler directing various shots, while the top one is an actual still. While this could be described as a coming-of-age comedy, I talked with Max and he said it’s actually more of a coming-of-age story in reverse. Essentially Angarano’s character thinks and acts a lot older than he is, but over the course of the film set at this wedding, he ends up realizing he needs to be true to his own age. From what I’ve seen and heard, it has the potential to be a fantastic indie gem and I’m very excited to see it (check out a soundtrack listing on The Playlist). Beautiful International Posters for ‘Tron Legacy’ & ‘Let Me In’

A couple more impressive posters to feature today. Most probably already know I’m a big fan of both Tron Legacy and Let Me In. so obviously if there’s an awesome poster for either movie, I’m going to mention it. IMPAwards just dug up two sleek bew posters for both, but since they’re international (Tron is from Japan, Let Me In is from France) I decided to toss both of them together into one big post. I love the Let Me In one because they can promote it without having to worry about the MPAA and that includes putting a little blood on there. As for Tron, it’s just a cool design (a lot better than this one) but it’s not particularly my favorite.

You can click on either poster below to see full-size. Don’t be fooled by the Tron poster, I’m pretty sure Sam Flynn and Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde) are not actually enemies in the movie, they’re on the same side!

Tron Legacy is directed by first-time filmmaker Joseph Kosinski. The screenplay was co-written by Adam Horowitz (“Lost”), Richard Jefferies (Blood Tide, Living Hell), Edward Kitsis (“Lost”), and the director of the original movie, Steven Lisberger. This first got the greenlight last year because this early teaser played well at Comic-Con. Disney is bringing Tron Legacy to theaters in 3D starting on December 17th. You in?

Let Me In is both written and directed by American filmmaker Matt Reeves, who’s feature directorial debut was J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield but prior to that he directed episodes of “Felicity” and various other TV shows. This is a re-adaptation/remake of the Swedish novel and feature film Let the Right One In written by John Ajvide Lindqvist. Overture Films is bringing Let Me In to theaters everywhere starting October 1st this fall.

Watch: Funny International Trailer for Todd Phillips’ Due Date

Warner Brothers recently debuted this brand new international trailer on YouTube for Todd Phillips’ Due Date, starring comedy champions Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as well as Juliette Lewis, Michelle Monaghan, Jamie Foxx, Alan Arkin, RZA and others. It’s not too different from the official trailer we featured back in July, but it is just as funny and it definitely has some great moments that you all need to see. I’m not easily sold on comedies, but this is definitely one I’m looking forward to seeing this fall, it looks hilarious. Yes, it’s just like Plane, Trains & Automobiles, but there’s nothing wrong with that! Watch below.

Due Date is directed by Oscar nominated (only for writing) veteran comedy director Todd Phillips, of Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, School for Scoundrels and The Hangover previously. The screenplay was written by Alan R. Cohen & Alan Freedland (“King of the Hill”) and Adam Sztykiel (Made of Honor) & Todd Phillips. Watch This: Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns with Sean Penn

What’s that? You’ve never heard of “Between Two Ferns” with Zach Galifianakis? Well, then you’re missing out on some seriously hilarious stuff. Over at Funny or Die, an uninformed, idiotic version of Zach Galifianakis has been hosting a public access style talk show with some of the hottest names in Hollywood. Sitting quite literally between two ferns, the comedian asks whatever questions pop into his head complete with random stories, tangents and inappropriate comments. This edition has Sean Penn as his guest, but with Zach out of town, his effeminate Southern raised twin brother Seth is hosting and it’s amazing to see.

Penn is very much playing it straight here and the hardest thing he has to do is not laugh, but it’s hilarious to have such a serious, opinionated and sometimes overbearing actor having fun like this. Penn hasn’t done comedy in over a decade, and even though he’s not being silly here, I’d love to see him take on more comedic roles in the future. Things get a little heated since Seth is even less informed than Zach when it comes to his guests, and he just doesn’t know when to shut up. If you’ve got the time, be sure to check out other episodes of “Between Two Ferns “which include Michael Cera, Jon Hamm, Natalie Portman and many more. Enjoy!

John Woo Remaking ‘Le Samourai’ + His Own Film ‘The Killer’

We just talked about John Woo’s forthcoming first foray onto IMAX screens with Flying Tigers, but the action filmmakers is planning even further down the road with a couple of remakes in mind. Variety recently spoke with the director who revealed that he hopes to remake the 1967 French classic Le Samourai, not to mention remaking his own 1989 Hong Kong police action flick The Killer. In addition, Woo is apparently also developing a couple of new martial arts fueled films. One will be an homage to Hong Kong filmmakers Chang Cheh and King Hu, while the other is a samurai movie in the same vein as an Akira Kursowa movie.

While I’ve never been a fan of directors who decide to remake or even slightly change their previous works years or even decades later, Woo’s eye for action has likely gotten better in the past 21 years, so perhaps it could work. The original starred Chow Yun-Fat as assassin Ah Jong, who accidentally damages the eyes of the singer Jennie (Sally Yeh) during a shootout. He later discovers that if Jennie does not have an expensive operation soon, she will go blind, so he decides to perform one last hit to get the money for the operation. A remake could be fun, I suppose, but I’m willing to bet Woo’s die-hard fans wouldn’t be too keen on seeing it.

However, I’m completely against his remaking Le Samourai, a favorite French film of mine introduced to me during my college years which just should not be touched by contemporary filmmakers. The 1967 film followed hitman Jef Costello who, after offing a nightclub owner, has to deal with both his double-crossing employer who now wants him dead, and the dogged police investigator who’s determined to rein him in. The film meshes elements of samurai and gangster films into an innovative and truly magnificent classic. I just don’t want it touched. However, what I wouldn’t mind seeing is another manifestation of Woo’s dream to one day direct a musical. Apparently he almost directed the recent incarnation of Phantom of the Opera, but wanted to change-up the songs in it a little too much, so they ended up with Joel Schumacher instead.

With so many projects and desires floating around in his head, Woo’s got a future slate for at least the next ten years, and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be taking any breaks anytime soon. Woo says, “I don’t want to stop. I’m a pretty reasonable person. I have no other luxuries or desires, I just love to work and work and work.” I’m sure his fans don’t mind hearing that one bit! Johansson & Gordon-Levitt in ‘Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament’?

We already know Diablo Cody is re-teaming with director Jason Reitman for Young Adult, but previously the quirky screenwriter (who also wrote Jennifer’s Body) was said to be crafting another unique take on the horror genre with an adaptation of S.G. Browne’s dark comedy Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament. The film is a zombie-led romantic comedy following Andy, a dead man who discovers himself newly re-animated as a decaying zombie and must figure out what it means to live as an “un-dead” in a society that denies his kind basic rights. Pajiba reports Scarlett Johansson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are loosely attached to star.

If you’re looking for a little more insight into the story, here’s a full summary of the book from Amazon:

“Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents’ wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn’t even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they’re so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious.”

You can’t knock its originality, but I’m not so sure that audiences will be too keen on following a decaying zombie as their romantic lead (even if he ends up being played by the charming Gordon-Levitt). If anyone can make this work on the page, it’s Cody and her unique writing style. Jennifer’s Body may not have been all that successful, but it wasn’t without some great moments and a style all its own. Apparently the project is currently out to directors, so hopefully we’ll be finding out who’s sitting in the director’s chair soon. He’s already ventured into zombie territory before, but maybe Edgar Wright? I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.

Paranormal’s Team Backing New Eco-Horror Project ‘The Bay’

We didn’t mention this when it first hit, but apparently director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Toys, Sphere, Bandits, etc) is currently working on a new sci-fi thriller that was originally called Isopod. The new title (via Prod Weekly) is just The Bay and ScreenDaily (via STYD) wrote an updated sales report, adding some plot details into the mix and info about who’s producing, too. Apparently the team behind Paranormal Activity, including director Oren Peli and producers Jason Blum and Steven Schneider, will be helping produce The Bay. We’re not sure when shooting is supposed to start, but we do know it’s an eco-horror set in Maryland.

The last time we had a big “eco-horror” movie was The Happening, and we all know how that turned out, so let’s hope this is one is a lot better. The Bay is “culled from a collection of camera phone accounts, 911 calls and other mediums and tells of a viral outbreak on the eastern seaboard.” Much of the focus is on the small town of Claridge, Maryland, where “chaos ensues.” So a small town thriller about a global viral outbreak? Now this could be interesting. If Levinson can bring the same amount of tension and intensity and fear that was in Sphere to this setting and this story, then I’m in. That’s one of my all-time favorite contained thrillers and I’m hoping for something similar here. We’ll continue to keep you updated on the status of this project!

New on Netflix Instant: Star Trek, Iron Man, Godfather & More

Hot on the heels of the application update allowing Netflix Instant to be used on the iPhone/iPod Touch, here’s a big update to let you know about the plethora of titles that will hit the library next week. The huge chunk of cinema comes courtesy of Netflix’s deal with the cable channel Epix who has provided plenty of classic and recent releases for Netflix subscribers to enjoy almost anywhere. Just so everyone’s aware, all of the titles listed below won’t be available for streaming until September 1st, but there’s so many of them we just wanted to get them out there ahead of time so you’re prepared. So what’s in our queue this/next week?

Star Trek (Available Today):
Though there seems to be some dissension amongst hardcore Trekkies, this J.J. Abrams directed franchise reboot was one of my favorite films of 2009. In addition, feel free to partake in some of the older films like Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country which will also be available on September 1st (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn has been available for some time already). Since Paramount is part of the Epix deal I’d imagine the rest of the Star Trek films are coming soon.

Iron Man (Available September 1st):
The film that started the five year journey to the release of The Avengers in 2012 is now part of the Netflix Instant library. See Robert Downey Jr. (in one hell of a comeback role) give birth to Iron Man as he battles with Jeff Bridges’ Obediah Stane and witness the spawning of an all-new career direction for Jon Favreau. Sadly this film could not be outdone by its sloppy sequel, but now you an easily revisit this favorite anywhere.

The Godfather Trilogy (Available Today):
There’s not much that needs to be said about Francis Ford Coppola’s classic dramatic mafia saga. In case you’ve been holding out for some strange reason, all three parts of this trilogy will be available on Netflix Instant. The Godfather and The Godfather Part II won Best Picture in their respective release years, and even though The Godfather Part III feels like a massive misstep, it’s still loads better than many motion pictures before and after its time.

The Indiana Jones Collection (Available Today):
Even if you choose to still regard these classic action adventure movies as a trilogy, the fact remains that all four of the installments are now available for your convenient viewing on Netflix Instant whether you like it or not. And if you have any friends who haven’t been introduced to The Man with the Hat, make sure you sit them down to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade and yes, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Friday the 13th Parts I – VI (Available Today):
Though they’re certainly not all gems, I didn’t want you horror fans to feel like Netflix was ignoring you, so here’s your treat for the day. The first six films in Jason Vorhees filmography will now be available for a future Halloween marathon. Though I’m sure the others are on the way, in the mean time you’ll have to settle for Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part II, Friday the 13th Part III, Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, and Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives.

The Negotiator (Available Today):
Though this film doesn’t exactly seem like it’s in league with the other aforementioned films as an icon or staple of cinema, this has always been one of my favorite police dramas and the dynamic between Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey is truly electric. There’s also great performances from Paul Giamatti (back when he was just a character actor) and the late J.T. Walsh. If you haven’t seen it, then I wholly recommend you take the time to check it out.

Catch Me If You Can (Available Today):
You may know that I already love this movie immensely after I placed it on my Best of the Decade list last year, and it’s certainly one of Spielberg’s best films in recent memory. Leonardo DiCaprio still looks as young as the teenage con-man he’s playing in this film, and Christopher Walken nearly steals every scene from him. Meanwhile Tom Hanks really shines as he attempts to chase down the infamous Frank Abagnale, Jr.

Dances with Wolves (Available Today):
This sure is one long film from Kevin Costner, but it’s also a great option if you don’t want to cough up the extra money to see Avatar again with the new footage premiering only on selected IMAX 3D screens around the country this weekend. That’s right, I turned this recommendation into a dig at Avatar. Do you think James Cameron is going to care as he counts all the money from his recycled storyline made fancy with 3D visuals? If he does, then I’d love for him to send me an e-mail telling me just that.

Casting Tidbits: Bryan Cranston, Ted Danson and Luke Wilson

We are Sex Bob-Omb and we are here to make you think about Casting Tidbits and get sad and stuff. First up, fresh off his Emmy win last weekend, Variety reports Bryan Cranston has signed on to star in an indie thriller called The Grief Tourist. “Southland’s” Michael Cuditz also joins the cast in a story of a troubled soul who retraces the footsteps of serial killers who fascinate him as his hobby. His dark obsession with past killers soon becomes his reality and it leads us on a menacing and horrific journey inside his twisted mind. Siru Krishnamma (of A Man of No Importance) is directing from actor/writer Frank John Hughes’ script.

Second, Coming Soon reports that Luke Wilson, David Morse (Disturbia) and Riley Keough (The Runaways) have joined the cast of Yellow, a drama from director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook, Alpha Dog). Hank Azaria will also make a cameo appearance in the story about a young woman with a drug habit and a myriad of other problems. Previously announced cast members also include Sienna Miller, Lucy Punch, Ben Foster, Melanie Griffith and Gena Rowlands. Prepare to have your heartstrings pulled.

Next, THR reports that Ted Danson and Vinessa Shaw have joined the cast of Everybody Loves Whales. An ensemble cast which already includes Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell and Tim Blake Nelson leads this true story of a small-town reporter (Krasinski) and a Greenpeace volunteer (Barrymore) who enlist the help of rival superpowers to save three majestic gray whales trapped under the ice of the Arctic Circle. Danson will play a win-at-all-costs oilman who has no interest in saving the mammals while Shaw plays a White House staffer who wants the government to help the whales.

Finally, Variety reports that Thomas Haden Church, Martin Landau and Ezra Miller (City Island) have joined the cast of The Reasonable Bunch, the directorial debut of Sam Levinson, son of longtime filmmaker Barry Levinson. Few plot details are known, but the indie is supposed to be some sort of wedding comedy which has also already signed Kate Bosworth, Ellen Barkin, Ellen Burstyn and Demi Moore to star. The young Levinson also wrote the script himself which will see Bosworth and Miller as reckless siblings dragged to a chaotic family wedding by their overwrought mother, portrayed by Barkin. Landau will play Barkin’s father, but it’s unclear what roles Church and Miller are taking.

Check These Out: Andy Helms’ Star Wars Trilogy Print Series

We occasionally feature some really cool artwork and posters we find around the web (like Adam Sidwell’s 52 Bad Dudes) and today I came across some posters that I just had to share with you guys. Designer Andy Helms recently put together a series of prints for Star Wars (the original trilogy) that are just fantastic. These were originally found by Collider on Helms’ LiveJournal, and you can buy a series of all three or each of the prints individually on Etsy. I totally love the design of these, with that triangular shape being unique to each movie, it’s a great concept and it’s executed perfectly with this series (screw the prequels anyway!).

You can buy 8.5″x11″ prints for $15 a piece or the complete series for $40 (very good price). I’d love to see these printed in full 27″x40″ poster size, as I’m sure they’d look gorgeous. Coincidentally, Helms says he’s considering “a limited run of some offset prints made of all three.” I also love that he chose great titles for each one: “You’re Our Only Hope”, “Never Tell Me The Odds”, and of course “Fully Armed and Operational”. Now I want to go watch all three movies back to back!

Watch: Carl Bessai’s Time Loop Sci-Fi Film ‘Repeaters’ Trailer

Well this is definitely on my “radar” now. HitFix just debuted an early trailer for a “gritty, sci-fi film” called Repeaters, from director Carl Bessai, that will be premiering at the Toronto Film Festival next month. The film plays with the Groundhog Day stuck-in-a-time-loop concept, but twists it into a “aggressive, fast-paced thriller” that addresses the morals of starting over with a clean slate every day in some of the most extreme ways (you’ll see). It looks okay, not great, but wait – why did a random motorbike just fly across the screen? Why aren’t there more explosions! Kidding, of course, but that was just a bit cheesy. Check this out below!

A gritty mind-bending thriller about three twenty-somethings – Sonia, Kyle, Weeks – who find themselves stuck in an impossible time labyrinth, where each day they awaken to the same terrifying day as before.

Repeaters is directed by Canadian filmmaker Carl Bessai, of numerous independent flicks like Johnny, Lola, Severed, Mothers & Daughters and Cole previously. The concept and screenplay was written by Arne Olsen, of timeless classics like Red Scorpion, Cop and a Half, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 and of course the TV movie Grizzly Rage previously (no wonder this looks so bad). This premieres at the Toronto Film Festival where it will be searching for a US distributor. Stay tuned for updates if you’re interested in this at all! Thoughts?
